iPhone Ultra Leak Spills Almost Everything: 9.2mm Folded, iPad-Style Hole-Punch, and a Very Apple Surprise
Apple's long-rumored foldable just had its biggest leak yet. A confidential internal schematic that surfaced this weekend lays out a finalized hardware spec for what Apple is reportedly calling the iPhone Ultra, not the iPhone Fold. And the design is more aggressive than anyone expected.
The headline number is thickness. The schematic puts the closed device at 9.23mm, slimmer than the 9.6mm figure floated in earlier reports. With the camera bump, you are looking at roughly 13mm at the device's thickest point, still thinner than every Galaxy Z Fold Samsung has shipped. Two colors are listed in the doc: a black variant and a silver variant. Notably, no titanium-style finish names yet, which suggests the bezels and chassis are using a more conventional aluminum alloy.
An iPad mini that folds in half
The form factor is book-style and wider than it is tall. Internally Apple has settled on a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded, which is exactly the iPad ratio, and the inner OLED is being described in supply chain notes as iPad mini-class. That positioning is interesting. Where Samsung and Honor have been narrowing their main inner displays toward something more phone-shaped, Apple is leaning into the tablet experience and pricing accordingly.
The outer cover screen, by contrast, is being treated as the "normal phone" surface. Recent renders show it sitting at roughly the dimensions of an iPhone 17 Pro, so day-to-day swiping should not feel alien.
The Android move nobody saw coming
Here is the part that is going to start arguments on Reddit. The leaked images show a punch-hole selfie camera in the inner display, sitting in the upper-left corner. No Dynamic Island. No notch. Just a hole, exactly like a Galaxy or Pixel Fold.
That is a notable break for Apple, which built its entire face-detection identity around the TrueDepth array. The schematic suggests Face ID hardware has been moved or simplified for the foldable, possibly relying on under-display sensors or shifting biometric duties back to a Touch ID power button. The outer display's camera arrangement is not yet confirmed in the leaked doc.
Pricing and timeline
Multiple supply-chain analysts are pointing to a fall 2026 reveal alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with availability potentially slipping into late November or December for the foldable specifically. Apple often announces hero hardware in September and ships it weeks later, and the iPhone Ultra would not be the first product to debut on stage and arrive in stores around the holidays.
Nobody has nailed down a price. Reasonable guesses, given Samsung's Z Fold 7 sits around $1,899 and Apple typically charges a premium, point at a sticker somewhere north of $2,200. That puts it shoulder to shoulder with a fully kitted iPad Pro, which is a tell about how Apple sees the category.
The legitimacy of these documents has not been independently verified, and Apple has not commented. Leaks at this stage of a product cycle, especially ones this detailed, are usually genuine, and they tend to be allowed to surface to gauge public reaction before final tooling is locked.
If the schematic holds, Apple is about to ship a device that looks suspiciously like a Galaxy Fold, runs iOS, and will be pitched at a price that funds a small car. Whether that is exciting or exhausting depends entirely on how much you trust Apple to make a foldable feel like an Apple product, rather than a Samsung clone wearing an aluminum cap.
